Specialty Camps: Grades 4 – 8
Campers looking for challenge and adventure will enjoy these exciting opportunities to explore outdoors. All Specialty Camps offer a free swim period each day but do not include swim lessons.
Outdoor Adventures (OA)
Outdoor Adventure programs focus on camping and backpacking, canoeing and kayaking, teambuilding and rock climbing. The goal is for campers to learn and develop the necessary skills to enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle.
OA I (currently in) grades 3 – 5 Sessions 1, 2, 3 & 4
Each session OA I Campers will participate in an overnight as well as a two day, one night backpacking trip on Hale Reservation property.
OA II (currently in) grades 4 – 6 Session 2 & 4
OA II (currently in) grades 5 – 7 Sessions 1 & 3
OA II Campers enjoy off campus overnight trips. Sessions 2 and 4 feature a four day, three night camping trip to southern New Hampshire with day hiking, kayaking and swimming at a lake. Sessions 1 and 3 will venture further north to the White Mountains for a four day, three night backpacking trip.
Mountain Bikers (MB) grades 3 – 7
The Mountain Biker programs include 2 -3 hours of riding each day, as well as other traditional camp activities. Participant must provide his/her own bike and helmet.
MB (currently in) grades 3 – 6 Session 1 & 3
MB (currently in) grades 4 – 7 Session 2 & 4
MB Campers focus on developing the basic skills of trail riding and safety. Specific skill development includes learning to read the trail ahead, riding the brakes downhill while standing, down-shifting while peddling up hills and maintaining balance on trails.
In addition to enjoying longer rides and more challenging trails, MB Campers will be developing a “Skills Park.” Riders will also learn basic bike repair and maintenance.
